I remember mine vividly.

I’d taken a year off to live at an ashram in southern India. I was grieving my father and searching for clarity. The ashram gave me stillness, courage, and the strength to keep going.

When I matched at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, I felt it all—the sacrifice, the questioning, the uncertainty. And then: a door opening.

My residency became one of the most formative experiences of my life.

To every medical student opening that envelope tomorrow: I wish you a placement that aligns with who you’re becoming. May you find a program that challenges you, supports you, and helps you discover what you’re made of.
