Will AI truly revolutionize drug discovery and dev Will AI truly revolutionize drug discovery and development and democratize healthcare, or will it provide incremental advantages on efficiencies and cost?

These are some of the questions which framed our dynamic discussion at yesterday’s fireside chat on AI in life sciences, hosted by CREW San Diego and Sterling Bay at the Pacific Center’s stunning new spacious campus.

With Sierra Simpson moderating, Magda Marquet, Robin Toft, and I explored the profound, disruptive implications of AI/ML in healthcare, including:

- The strengths and limitations of using AI/ML in drug discovery and development correlated to where there are large, well-curated databases to train on and how close we truly are to having breakthroughs in Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

- How AI could fundamentally shift patient experience and healthcare delivery, potentially creating more effective and personalized treatment journeys while raising important questions about who benefits from these innovations and how equitably they’ll be distributed.

- AI implementation benefits and challenges and the deliberate cultural transformation necessary to integrate it into organizations.

- The need for more leadership and talent to harness these tools, including the focus on interdisciplinary studies to ensure that diverse perspectives shape how these powerful technologies serve humanity. Chaos is a prelude to creativity!

Thank you to the exceptional Lila Biologics team, who are on the forefront of innovative, cutting edge AI/ML protein design, for showing me what’s truly possible with these technologies…and to everyone who participated in the discussion. Yesterday’s dialogue was just the beginning, and I’m energized to continue this important work together!

Before I understood the power of mirrors in leader Before I understood the power of mirrors in leadership, I had a powerful one in my personal life:

My mother.

As a brilliant physician who balanced her demanding career with unwavering devotion to our family, she showed me what was possible.

As Mother’s Day approaches this Sunday, I encourage you to reach out to the mothers and mother figures who’ve shaped your life.

Send that text, make that call, plan that visit, or order those flowers. If your mother is no longer with you, perhaps light a candle, prepare her favorite recipe, or simply pause to remember her influence on who you’ve become.

Our mirrors deserve to be celebrated—not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.
